Centreville High School Seniors
Class of 2008
The Centreville High School PTSA is pleased to offer the opportunity to apply for the following scholarships to all CVHS seniors graduating in June 2008:
- Ten scholarships of $500 each, for students continuing their education at a 2- or 4-year accredited college, vocational or technical school, or other accredited post-secondary program. One of these scholarships will be awarded to a special education student.
To qualify, the student must have the following:
- Current PTSA membership (either the student or a parent) established before the end of the first quarter of the current school year.
- Acceptance at a qualifying institution, as detailed above, for the school year beginning in August or September 2008. If you have not notified the guidance department of your decision regarding further education, please do so immediately.
- Minimum 2.0 grade point average.
- Demonstrated responsibility and character. PTSA Scholarships will be awarded to students who, among other traits, demonstrate character and responsibility in their lives. For example, many students make a commitment to clubs or sports teams at school, are active in religious organizations, or volunteer in the community. Some students must consistently be a worker in their family so that the needs of all family members are met. Decide how you best exemplify character and responsibility in your life and have it confirmed to the Scholarship Committee by the resume, completion of the employer reference form (attached), or other recommendation. Please feel free to notify Claire Leftwich (in the CVHS Career Center) if language, or anything else, presents a problem with this requirement.
To apply, please complete the following:
- Information form.
- Two personal reference forms from Centreville High School teachers, counselors, or administrators.
- Resume detailing school, community service and/or religious organization activities.
- Employer reference form (optional).
- Other letters of reference or statements that demonstrate responsibility and character (optional).
- Essay.
PLEASE RETURN ALL APPLICATION MATERIALS TO THE CAREER CENTER BY MAY 1, 2008.
Scholarship recipients will be announced at the Senior Awards ceremony.
