Reflections

Information for the 2008-2009 School Year

The new Reflections theme this year is “WOW!” Reflections information and specifics have been published and are available at the Northern Virginia District PTA website. Click here to open the Reflections page at their site. Student are encouraged to begin their projects today - Summer is a great time to be creative!

The CVHS PTSA will have a new Reflections Chairperson in the Fall of 2008. Check this page in the Fall for any new and updated Reflections information.

Past Reflections 2007-2008

“I can make a difference by…”
Reflections logo Welcome to the 2007-2008 National PTA Reflections Program. This year’s theme is “I can make a difference by…” National has put out a big challenge to all states to increase participation up to one million entries by the 2009-2010 reflections year. CVHS students have proven they have great creative genes so let’s do our part in showing just how creative we are. I challenge all Centreville students to show us your great ideas of how you could institute a change and make it count. Take your idea and give it reality through one of our six art areas. Yes, the National PTA has added two new art areas. They are Dance Choreography and Film/Video Production. Both areas ask for a DVD as an entry which must be no longer than five (5) minutes. The Film/video area has a new rules page this year to guide you in the recording of your entry in this area. Both dance and film/video can use music as a background, to be credited on the Official Entry Form. Those who want to use music do not have to compose it. You only compose music for the Music Composition area. The other three art areas of literature, photography, and visual art should lend themselves very nicely to your thoughts.

All entries are to be turned in to the PTSA box in the CVHS Main Office by October 26, 2007. Let yourself go and have FUN with this one.

Forms, sizes, and information on each art area can be found at the new district PTA website at www.novadistrictpta.org. Check out each area for NEW art rules. The Official Entry Form has a Helpful Hints page attached to it to guide you to a great presentation of your work. Number one of the Helpful Hints page suggests you download the Official Entry Form to your computer, put it in a file, fill it out, and then print a hard copy of it, sign it, put it into a sheet protector, and place it on your work according to the instructions on each art area rules page. Use of masking tape is preferred.

Future Theme Suggestions

If you would like to make theme suggestions for future Reflections programs, the Theme Suggestion Application is also available at the District PTSA website. Your suggestions are due Friday, October 19, 2007. Just remember only one theme suggestion per application, and use simple words that can be interpreted by all school age children, from pre kindergarten through high school.

If you would like to see works that have won at the National level just go to www.pta.org. It will take you right to the Gallery where there are eight works in every age group in each of our six categories from last year.
